Many people are confused about the difference between Home Care and Home Health Care. This handy guide will help you figure out what care will be best for your loved one or yourself.

Physician Order:

Does not usually have to be ordered by a physician

 Has to be ordered by a physician


Licensed Nursing:

May include licensed Nursing supervision, but

is not always necessary



 Licensed Nursing:

 Includes licensed Nursing according to the

 Physician order


Caregivers can be:

Personal Care Assistant (PCA)

Certified Nursing Assistance (CNA)

Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA)


** Caregivers can also be trained on site

on various skills in order to be prepared

to meet the needs of the client



Services can include:

 Licensed Nursing

 Physical Therapist

 Occupational Therapist


 Medical Social Worker

 Speech Therapist





Not paid for by Medicare

Some payment options for qualifying Veterans

Long-term Care Insurance coverage available

for purchase




 Coverage available for eligible patients through

 medical insurance





Home care is supportive care provided in the

home to ensure that all the activities of daily

living (ADLs) are met. Care can be on a short

or long term basis depending on the need(s)

of the client.




 Home Health care is a service intended to treat an

 illness or injury in your home with the goal to

 regain independence and become as self-

 sufficient as possible. Home Health is not a long

 term service and visits are made intermittently.
