Only three out of four Americans eat breakfast each day. That's not great as breakfast restores energy after a full night's sleep. If you get enough sleep, you're going more than eight hours from one meal or snack to the next. Getting up and having breakfast is important.

February is National Hot Breakfast Month. It's a good time to talk to your parents about their morning routine and make sure they're eating. With these heat-and-eat meals, they can have a satisfying meal without having to spend much time in the kitchen.

Homemade Breakfast Sandwiches

Buy a large carton of liquid eggs. Mix that with some shredded low-fat cheese and chopped spinach or kale, red pepper, and onions. Lightly butter or oil a lasagna pan and pour the mixture into that pan. Bake at 350 F until the eggs have completely set. It will take 20 to 30 minutes.

Cut the eggs into squares that will fit on an English muffin. Place a turkey sausage patty on the bottom portion of sausage and top with the egg and the other half of the muffin. Wrap tightly in deli paper and place it in a freezer bag. Keep them frozen until needed. Microwave on high for two minutes before serving.

Overnight Oats

Fill small microwave-safe containers with equal portions of unsweetened apple sauce and old-fashioned oatmeal. Top with chopped walnuts and cinnamon. Place in the refrigerator overnight. The next morning, remove the lid and cover it with a paper towel. Microwave on high for two minutes and serve warm. If you want to add some milk before serving, do so.

Breakfast Burritos

Purchase some whole wheat burrito wraps. Make scrambled eggs that contain black beans, pico de gallo, and low-fat cheddar. Once the eggs are set, spoon portions onto the wraps and fold them into burritos. Wrap each one in deli paper and place them all in a large freezer bag. Heat them for two or three minutes in the microwave before serving. Add a spoonful of guacamole if your mom and dad enjoy it.

Poached Egg Soup

Here's a trending food that hits the spot on a chilly February morning. Heat a cup and a half of chicken bone broth with some black pepper and paprika sprinkled in. When it's boiling carefully add one or two eggs and a couple of handfuls of fresh spinach. Top with green onions and serve as a breakfast soup that contains poached eggs and leafy greens.
